Major roadworks on M27 at Southampton which will last until end of 2008. Currently traffic freely moves but could be major problems during the summer season. Average speed cameras set to 50mph located along these road works.

Please note the following information in no way advocates breaking any speed limits but is a warning to prevent any spoilt holidays by some of the sneakily placed cameras on the main routes to West Bay / Bridport.

Although most of the fixed point cameras in the area are quite prominent and easy to see, there are a few that have been placed in such a way to catch as many vehicles as possible.

To the West of Bridport

A35 - Vinney Cross  Westbound. Speed Limit: 60mph Mobile unit located on right hand bend on downhill section, immediately at end of dual carriageway.

A35 - Chideock both directions. Speed Limit: 30mph Fixed cameras are at each end of the village both pointing downhill. The camera pointing westbound is outside a row of council houses going into village and the eastbound camera is on the pavement at the end of the gravel escape lanes. They are set quite sensitive +2/3mph. They are both at the bottom of steep hills into the village.

To the east of Bridport

B3157  Both directions Speed Limit: 30mph All Along the B3157 the Police have set up mobile speed traps. The most common place for them is in Portesham, 1st Village from Weymouth, and Last from Bridport, (just off Abbotsbury.) They sit in a White Beligo Van, and get you either way. Its 30mph, so watch out.

To the North of Bridport

A356 from the A303 to Crewkerne. None seen.

A3066 from Crewkerne to Bridport. None seen.

A303 Chicklade West bound. Speed limit 50mph. The road becomes a dual carriageway as it goes up the hill. Camera located about a third of the way up the hill as you gain speed. Possibly one of the sneakiest cameras as it will catch you as you overtake slower traffic going up this steep hill.

A303 Wincanton. Speed limit 70mph. Various mobile units that hide in lay byes particulary where they are hidden by a bend.
